Distance Learning MBA

MBA distance learning is a type of education whereby students can complete a coursework without even actually going to school. These programs are particularly advantageous for those who have not much time to attend actual school classes, particularly those who have to balance schooling with working and attending to the needs of his/her family.

However, MBA distance learning programs are not all advantages. Distance learning programs also have their own share of disadvantages, just like traditional educational programs. MBA distance learning programs could or could not work well for you. Then again, it is not for anyone to tell. Perhaps, none can tell you if distance learning programs are right for you or not but yourself.

It is because of such disadvantages that a lot of students undertaking MBA distance learning program end up without finishing their courses and not receiving any degree at all. However, as a student, it is up to you to find out about these disadvantages and avoid them, because, after all, it is you who needs a college degree and diploma someday.

Most MBA distance learning institutes provide 'job-oriented', productive and autonomous Postgraduate Diploma programs. This is done through correspondence. These program contents are the same as conventional MBA programs.

Some examples of such programs would be–

Two Year Diploma Programs in Distance Learning MBA:

1. Post Graduate Diploma in Management - (PGDM - DUAL): This offers specialization in Sales and Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management as well as HRD, Foreign Trade, Production and Materials Management. You can specialize in any one or more disciplines.

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management & Human Resource Development (PGD PM & HRD): This program is a full-fledged specialist one and offers in-depth knowledge of all the aspects of Human Resource Management and HRD plus Labor Laws.

4. Post Graduate Diploma in International Business (PGDM-IB): This is a specialist program. It covers both domestic marketing as well as International Business.

One-Year Diploma Programs in Distance Learning MBA:

MBA distance learning institutes also provide one-year diploma programs:

1. Diploma in Business Management (DBM)


2. Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM)


3. Diploma in Marketing Management (DMM)


4. Diploma in Industrial Security (DIS) - (Six months only for Defense Service Officers.)

Criteria for qualifying for Distance Learning MBA:

  • A fresh graduate student can specialize in any one discipline within a span of two years. Then again, they can go in for second specialization on completion of the course.
  • Executives from industries can go in for specialization in two disciplines within two years or simply specialize in one discipline and get their PGDM.
  • Those students seeking additional specialization may apply for the same during their second year by remitting an additional specialization fee of Rs. 3000/-.
  • Course duration could be extended for 6 months with every additional specialization. 

However, prior to taking any MBA distance learning program, see that you have adequate knowledge about it and the institution offering it. It is even better to scrutinize thoroughly the distance learning programs offered by a particular educational institution. From there you may decide whether it is right for you or not.
