Administrative Services ManagersThere are workers who help organizations in efficiently effecting services. Administrative services managers provide this job. They cater to various organizations, whether it is a small business firm or a large government agency. The duties of administrative services managers have a wide range of responsibility. The functions depend on its authority and responsibility; for large organizations, they have first-line administrative services managers and mid-level administrative services managers. First-line managers supervises the staff of a department directly, while mid-level managers carries the responsibility of developing department plans and goals, implementation of procedures for higher productivity, and improving customer service. Sometimes, they are referred as supervisory-level managers. In fact, they oversee on department first-line managers including those with clerical function. Then, they are responsible in giving reports to the owner of the organization or to higher managers. Their function may extend up to employees’ hiring and dismissal. The only role they cannot assume is personnel policy formulation. The mid-level administrative services managers can get higher positions after some time, such as vice president for administration.
For smaller business establishments, there can only be one administrative services manager. He or she takes the responsibility in overlooking all departments. However, the duties of some administrative services managers also expand as the size of an organization increase.
Most administrative services manager works in an office 40 hours a week. There are instances when work extends beyond the standard number or hours without additional compensation. This happens when there are unresolved problems that need special attention right away. Facility managers that are responsible in designing workspaces may travel between facilities. They are obliged to be present even during off days whenever facility problems are encountered. Nowadays, because of modern technology, particularly teleconferencing, there is a marked reduction in travel hours of managers.
Educational requirements for administrative services managers differ depending on the organization. Smaller businesses may only require their managers to have related experience in the job. But for larger organizations, managerial positions require both education and experience. Some may even prefer managers holding advanced educational degree. They have to be smart with an excellent working rapport with people from all lifestyles. A good communication skill is a big plus factor for would-be administrative services managers. Compensation for administrative services managers depends on the employer, the geographic location as well as the specialty. In general, managers belong to average earning workers.
There is a projected growth in employment of administrative services managers. Competition between workers is intense because there will be lesser available positions than there is competent and experienced job seekers.
