Computer Programmers

Over sixty-percent of computer programs have some type of college degree. Most computer programs have a bachelor’s degree in a certain area of computer programming. Growth in the field of computer programming is expected to be much slower than other fields of computer specialties. It is best for college graduates to understand a number of programming tools and languages. Individuals who have less training in computer programming will have to compete against many strong, educated competitors going after the same job. Essentially this is a field in which an individual benefits greatly from having a bachelors degree or higher.

Employees in the field of computer programming are expected to know how to maintain, write and test several programs that are responsible for the proper function of a business or personal computer. Computer programmers must learn how to design, test and conceive logical solutions to the solving of any number of computer malfunctions. As technology advances so does the language and tools that a computer programmer must be skilled in. An employee in computer programming must constantly update their reserves of knowledge. A great computer programmer closely follows the latest advances in technology. The main job responsibility of a computer programmer is to program. This field of employment entails many different work responsibilities that call for several different educational backgrounds.

In essence a computer programmer informs a computer of what to do. Without computer programming a computer would not function. Computers run on different programs and software applications. A programmer must be able to multi-task as they will have to write or update several different computer programs at once. Computer programmers are also expected to write new and updated programs for computers. This can be a time-consuming and mentally taxing job.

Computer programmers usually work in an office setting. Some programmers are asked to travel to several different job locations. A computer programmer must be able to spend long hours at a computer terminal.  Since computer programmers are usually required to have a college degree the wages are usually pretty high. Some computer programmers receive a set yearly salary, others an hourly wage and some computer programmers are paid per job completed.

It is estimated that as computer programs become more advanced computer programmers will be required to have a college degree higher than two years. An individual with a tow year degree will have to compete with other individuals who have higher degrees. Still though, the job placement rate for computer programmers is very high.

This is a great field for individuals who are interested in technology. Computer programs are constantly changing and adjusting their programming methods according to the latest advancements in technology.
