Dental assistants are a dream come true to dentists. Dental assistants do the menial jobs which would otherwise get in the way of dentists when providing dental treatment. Dental assistants carry out an assortment of patient care, office and laboratory tasks. They assist dentists in their work. As office work, the dental assistants files dental record and hand them to the dentist when needed it. The dental assistants also confirm appointments and welcome patients to the clinic. They put patients at ease while readying for treatment. Other office duties the dental assistants handle are keeping treatment records, send bills and keep track of supplies and materials.

The dental assistants are in harmony with the dentist when dentists ask for dental instruments and materials they would need in the course of a dental treatment. Side by side with the dentist, the dental assistant assists in keeping the patient’s mouth dry and keeping the patient comfortable.

The laboratory tasks though quite complicated, like making cast of the teeth and mouth from imprints, make temporary crowns, the dental assistants work with detailed perfection. Sterilization and disinfection of tools necessary for dental work is done with utmost care and precision.

The dental assistants’ workplace is very ideal. The room is well lit and immaculately clean. It goes also for their uniform. The dental assistants also use gloves and mask. Because of the nature of the dental assistant’s job, they are required to wear mask and cladding for their protection and the patients from infections that might occur. Safety measures for the use of X ray machines is noted to reduce hazards allied in the usage of the machine.

The dental assistants usually don’t have formal trainings. The trade of the dental assistant job is mostly learning on the job. Although there are now formal trainings that can be had, like in community or night schools, in technical institutes or private organizations training projects. But most of the time dental assistants have a manual natural deftness.

Dental assistants are always in demand. The dental assistant’s job makes it easier for the dentist to go about their more complex course of action and leave routine tasks to dental assistants.

But how much are the dental assistants paid for a dental assistant job which requires a sense of service? Dental assistant salary varies considerably. It depends on the practice and subject to conditions according to full time employment.
