Complicated tools are used in the examination. Preparations are being done before the actual scanning.  One preparation is putting special kind of gel on the skin to help in the diffusion of sound waves.

Diagnostic medical sonographers view the screen while scanning.  Diagnostic medical sonographers find for slight visual hints to differentiate healthy areas with unhealthy ones.  Diagnostic medical sonographers then would come to a decision which images are for diagnostic purposes and for show to the physicians. This allows the diagnostic medical sonographers to take the dimensions, determine values and evaluate the results laying the groundwork for the physicians.
