Health Sciences Librarian

A health science librarian is a great help in the medical field, they are the people that find all the necessary medical information. They work with big amount of different information from journals, books, multimedia presentations and tapes found in health science library. They help all the medical professionals and their patents and answer all their health related questions that they might have. 

Being a librarian of this kind you are most likely going to work in a pharmaceutical company, hospital, private business, research centre, or any other health organization. On a normal day at work you are most likely going to do something like research different health issues, catalogue new material as well as order new materials. This will go together with helping all the visitors to the library by answering their questions and helping them find what they are looking for. If you work as a librarian at the hospital it will be your duty to deliver books to the patients.

In order to become a good health science librarian you should be able to work well with others, but also alone, you have to have basic knowledge of computers, enjoy finding answers to difficult questions, be helpful, friendly, and you have to have patience and a relatively good memory. Health science is an important subject and needs to be considered. If you match the description above and are intrigued by health science in general, you should consider doing more research on the subject and maybe even applying for such a position.

A health science librarian is an important job because it makes the life of the doctor or nurse so much easier, if it wasn’t for the librarian the doctors wouldn’t know where in a normal library to start looking for what they need. Where as with a library dedicated to books on medical subjects, the doctor can tell the librarian what they are looking for and they will get it, instead of the doctor running around checking every shelf in the library for the information they need.  

If you are interested in a position as a health science librarian you should know a lot about and do well in Mathematics, English and Science. This will give you a better understanding of what you have to do and make your job as the librarian a little easier. Training for this job will also be an advantage to you and your work.
