Machinery Manufacturing

As far as the field of manufacturing is concerned machinery manufacturing contains the highest-paid and highest-skilled employees involved in manufacturing and production. The more training and skills acquired by an employee the more favorable their prospects are of acquiring a job in machinery manufacturing. Production workers make up over half of the employees in the industry. Most often a production worker is required to have training after the completion of high school. It is predicated that the high-rate of productivity growth will cause a lull in the growth of employment. Many openings are expected to open once experienced workers retire.

Machinery manufacturing is composed of seven different areas of employment. These areas of employment include the design and construction of machinery for a specific purpose. These machines are used in the agriculture, construction and mining manufacturing industries. Another one of these seven components is the design of machinery that is used by several different types of industry. This is usually known as general purpose machinery. This type of machinery is used by industries involved in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Metalworking machinery is also one of the seven components.

Metalworking machine is designed to form metal. The machinery forms, cuts and shapes the metal once the piece of metal is solid. Metal is used in products so often because of its durability and strength. This can be a dangerous type of machinery manufacturing to be involved in. This is because the employee is working with metal that is heated at very high temperatures.

Conditions in machinery manufacturing plants have greatly improved over the past few years. The newer facilities tend to be cleaner, well lighted and temperature controlled. Noise is often a compliant of workers involved in machinery manufacturing. Most of the work is less intensive because machines have been designed to handle the harder jobs still though workers may be required to perform some heavy lifting duties. Some employees in this field will have to handle chemicals, oil or grease or a daily basis. There are several safety precautions that must be followed when handling these products. Employees are required to work forty hours a week and at peak times employees are expected to work overtime hours. Some manufacturing facilities operate twenty-four hours a day.

Employees in this field are: Engineering managers, Engineers, Mechanical engineers, Electrical Engineers, Technicians, Drafters, Production Managers, Supervisors and Tool and Die Makers.

This is a great field for individuals interested in the study of engineering.
