It is required that employees specializing in marketing or surveying must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher. Often times a master’s degree is required for certain areas of employment in marketing research. It is very important for an employee in the field of market and survey research to continually be increasing their education and knowledge. It is estimated that employment will quickly grow in the field of market and survey research more so then in other fields. There are more job opportunities available to individuals who have a doctorate or master’s degree in marketing. If not marketing then the prospective employee should have a degree in a related field or have strong experience skills.

Researchers or otherwise known as marketing research analysts are mainly concerned around the growth or sales of a specific service or product. Analysts are expected to gather data on competitor’s sales, prices, and marketing and distribution methods. This allows a company to have an edge or be in equal competition with a company that is selling a similar product. Research Analysts based in the field of marketing usually obtain the data they need through Internet, mail or telephone surveys. Sometimes personal interviews are conducted door-to door or a focus group is used to analyze current market trends. Focus groups are set-up wither at shopping malls or other public places. A trained interviewer is responsible for successfully conducting the surveys under the supervision of the research analyst.

After analysts complete all of their research they will report their findings to a specific client or corporation. The corporation or client will then use the data to effectively market and sell their new product or service.

Survey and market researchers usually work alone. Researchers spend long hours preparing statistical charts, writing reports and using data to create a factual foundation for their findings. A research analyst must also be able to work well within a group of researchers. Researchers are expected to conduct interviews with the general public. A marketing researcher was enjoy dealing with the public and be a good communicator. Market researchers work in tight schedules and under the pressure of deadlines. At times a market analyst may be expected to travel.

Since most jobs in the field of market and survey research require such high levels of education that pay is quite high. Job opportunities are best for individuals who possess a master’s or doctorate degree in marketing. Also, these employees will be offered higher starting salaries.
