News Analysts, Reporters and Correspondents

Competition is very fierce for individuals interested in the career of news analyst, reporter or correspondent. Most news analysts work in large metropolitan areas for a broadcast station, national newspaper or magazine. Entry level positions are usually open at much smaller broadcast stations and publication companies. An employer looks more favorably upon a candidate that has a bachelor’s degree in mass communications or journalism. Experience working on a college newspaper or with a local broadcast station is often preferred. An individual can gain experience through an internship program. Several news organizations across the country offer internships to students who have recently or are soon scheduled to graduate. A person working as a reporter or news analyst can expect to work long, irregular hours. A lot of reporters musty work on weekends and nights. The greatest pressure on a news analyst is to meet specific deadlines. Job growth in this field is predicted to grow at a place that is slower than average. This slow growth rate is forecasted because many newspapers and other media organizations are experiencing layoffs as advances in technology change the way in which the general public receives local, national and world news.

A news analyst is also known as a newscaster, news anchor and sportscaster. The news analyst is expected to interpret, examine and broadcast news that has been provided by various sources. A news anchor usually video tapes news segments that will be played during news segments and programs. A news anchor oftentimes either works in a studio or on location. A news analyst is usually expected to travel to several different locations throughout the day. Essentially a news analyst must go were the news is happening this can be anywhere in a community. A weathercaster is mainly responsible for delivering accurate weather forecasts to the general public whereas a sports caster delivers local and national sporting news. News correspondents are employees that are located in foreign cities, delivering news from a specific area. When a country is at war oftentimes newspapers or broadcast stations will have a news correspondent in the other country. These correspondents are responsible for delivering the most up to date information regarding conflicts and other uprisings. Some correspondents are placed in war zones that are extremely dangerous.

The salary for a news analyst is very high. Usually candidates with more experience receive better job opportunities and potential wage earnings. This is a great field for an individual who is interested in the news and the delivering of news to the public.
