Operations Research Analyst

To be an operations research analyst, one must be able to apply analytical techniques, advanced ones, to better problem solving and decision making. Operations research has become valuable to civilization and its development. Because there is a lot of operations analyst these days, it only means the economy is becoming more complex and is definitely growing.

Analytical methods from different fields of study are what are being utilized here to further the betterment of this nation. Usually, an operations research analyst will have an area of specialization. This may be in financial or transportation industries. In this job, one can expect analysis, designing, scheduling, measuring, allocating, forecasting, planning and definitely strategizing.

An operations research analyst or an operations logistics supply chain analyst is expected to work regular hours. The working conditions that are to be expected are that of an office environment. With this job, the deadline is always looming ahead. This is because the work is of great import to company mangers. There will be pressure and the work hours are usually extended, becoming more than the regular 40 hours.

To apply for this position, one is preferred to have a master’s degree in the least. This degree should be related to fields such as management science, information systems, mathematics, business, engineering, computer science, and other related fields. It is even better if you have a bachelor’s degree in fields such as economics, statistics, quantitative discipline, and other related fields. If you have a dual graduate degrees, employers will be expected to go after you as long as these degrees are in computer science and operations research.

An operations research analyst is expected to do well in these areas – logic, use of computers, team participation, and communications. Even with all the necessary degrees, newly hired individuals will still be given extensive training. For those who have already been working long and have gained plenty of experiences, most employers would still provide them with training. This is done to keep abreast of recent techniques and developments.

An operations research analyst is usually employed in firms offering technical consulting service, scientific firms, management, telecommunications companies, financial institutions, insurance firms, and firms offering computer systems design services. The Federal State as well as most local governments also employs operations analysts. The employment rate is projected to grow slower than average. There will be plenty of job openings though for this position because companies will be sure to improve themselves.
