Psychologist

There are great employment opportunities for psychologists even if it is on a self-employment level.  This, as an estimated 4 out of every 10 psychologists are said to be self-employed, as compared to the one of ten rate among all other professional workers.  With this, employment for psychologists is expected to increase at a heightened level until the year 2014.

Although most of the specialists in psychology, including those that are practicing clinical and counseling psychology, need a doctoral degree, there are still many individuals who aspire to become psychologist.  A school psychologist needs a specialist degree while psychologists for industries and organizations need a master's degrees. Even with these stringent educational requirements when it comes to becoming a psychologist, admission to graduate psychology remains keen. This is probably because a psychologist studies the behaviors and minds of humans, which is no mean feat.

A psychologist, who is into research, looks into the cognitive, emotional, physical or social aspects of the behavior of a human.  One who is in the field of health service gives mental health care in clinics, private institutions, schools and hospitals.  A psychologist who works in an applied setting such as an industry, a business, a government institution or a non-profit organization give out trainings, conduct researches, act as psychology advocates and design systems.

Like any other social scientists, a psychologist comes up with hypotheses and collates data to test their veracity.  Some of them are always doing research through various means to substantiate their findings on any mental or human behavior.  The knowledge that are gathered are then applied to a broad range of undertakings.

These undertakings are applied to the many specializations when it comes to psychology.  One specialization is clinical psychology, which includes neuropsychology, health psychology and geropsychology.  There are also counseling psychologists, who use multiple techniques in reaching out to people and in advising them on what they should do to deal with daily problems.  School psychologists work with students both in the primary and secondary levels and they usually get the help of parents in dealing with these kids' problems.  Those psychologists that work in an industrial or organizational settings usually make use of principles and research methods on psychology in the place of work to enhance productivity.

Psychologists who deal with the cognitive, physiological and social development of humans throughout their lifetime deal with developmental psychology.  Social psychologists dwell on the examination of people's interpersonal relationship with others and with their social surroundings.  There are also psychologists who deal mostly with research and experimental fields.
