Wholesale TradeEmployees entering the field of wholesale trade can enjoy working in a family atmosphere. Most employees in wholesale trade will work in an office environment that contains fewer then fifty employees. In this type of environment an employee will be well-known by their co-workers and boss. Most of the jobs in wholesale trade are positions in administrative support, office, transportation, material-moving occupations and sales. Some of the jobs require a college degree but many of the jobs open in the wholesale trade only require a High School diploma. It is forecasted that the advances in technology may halt the growth in some fields of the wholesale trade but new opportunities and new jobs are predicated to be created in several other occupations.
The wholesale trade deals in the purchasing, receiving and delivery of goods. Say a consumer purchases items from a supermarket or gas station or department store this becomes an interaction with the wholesale trade industry. The consumer must go to the store and purchase the item from an employee in the industry. This type of sale can also be completed online. Larger consumers such as universities, hospitals or government agencies purchase goods from wholesale trade businesses that specialize in the selling of office equipment or motor vehicles or other retail items.
The size of a wholesale trade firm depends on the type and amount of goods that the firm sells. Some wholesale firms are huge, some making a national and global name for the company. This is usually true when it comes to very successful retail stores and chain stores. Employees in the wholesale trade perform a number of job duties such as shelving, repairing light fixtures, using the cash register, accounting, administrative duties, managerial duties and much more.
People employed in this field are usually given the following job titles: Management, Buyers, Purchasing Agents, Accountants, Auditors, Designers, Computer Specialists, Sales Representatives, Retail Workers, Sales Engineers, Booking, Customer Service Representative and Order Clerks. Other employees include mechanics, diesel engine specialists and mobile heavy equipment mechanics.
The pay level for workers in wholesale trade is relatively low to start with but as an employee advances so does their salary. Once an employee taps into management or above then their pay increases dramatically. Many times smaller companies promote from within which is a huge benefit to individuals interested in wholesale trade.
Whole sale trade is a busy and growing field to get into. As technology closes some of the occupations in this field, new occupations will be created. Wholesale trade is a necessary industry that keeps the economy flowing and business increasing.
