Prepare Your Child for School

Preparation for children education may help your child have the power and even the abilities to succeed in school. As parents, you can use several methods to prepare your child for school. Some of the ideas put forward are based on common sense, and there is substantial research available to support these methods.

As parents, we set an example for our children to follow. This means, if we have a positive attitude to learning, then it is more likely that our children will develop the same attitude.  Showing your child that education is valued and needed in our daily lives would go a long way in preparing a child for school.  Speaking about school to the child and it contribution to success would instill a need to do better in the future.

As a parent, you are the first teacher of your child. In the first five years of a child’s life, there is incredible physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth.  Every child has the inherent the capacity to learn. They learn best when parents support them. You must allow the child to talk, explore, experiment as all this makes learning pleasurable. These actions will give the child the motivation to succeed in school later, as they are the essential building blocks of learning

It is necessary to provide an environment that helps in language development skills.  Talking to your child, playing word games and reading, are just some of the ways you could help your child for the future. 

Tips for child schooling:

1. Help your child to read – This is the most essential step for later academic success.  Keep magazines, books and newspapers around house. You can buy books from yard and library sales.  Read to your child as often as you can. If you are not confident of your abilities, then seek the help of the library-reading program.

2. Ensure Active Learning – Let your ask questions about the world around, solve problems and explore interests.  Your child could be learning when he or she plays simple musical instruments, scribbles, plays with friends or in the park, visits supermarkets, museums, etc. Shut the television and let your child explore the world around, you will see a curious, interested child, who is keen to find out abut so many things that are around.

3. Listen to your child, and answer questions – Children ask questions that deserve to be answered. If you keep your ears and mind open, your child will become a knowledge seeking confident person in school.

4. Help your child be responsible and independent – He or she has to follow house rules, and help at home. There has to be schedule that the child follows. This will build a sense of responsibility within the child. A child who learns to keep away toys, books and clothes, dress up and more is also independent. These skills will go a long way in helping prepare your child for school.


Child schooling preparation will help in creating a well-adjusted student for the rest of their academic life.
