SAT Essay

SAT essay writing is a part of writing section and SAT usually begins with an essay. The duration for essay writing is 25 minutes. Considering that the time allotted for SAT essay writing is short, your essay is not expected to be of fine quality. You are evaluated for presentation of your ideas and explanation of your point of view on a given topic.

Trained and qualified college or high school teachers (called readers in this case) evaluate your SAT essay writing section. Two readers will assess your essays and grade them on a scale of 1 to 6 with 1 being the lowest score and 6 the highest. The readers will look at the overall quality of the essay, writing skills, use of words/sentences, and logical presentation of your views. It is important to use precise words and phrase your essay accordingly as you will have to complete your essay in the space provided on the answer sheet. You will not be provided with any additional sheet. Also make sure that you use a pencil to write your SAT essay. Essays written in ink lead to disqualification and a zero score. You will also get a zero score for your essay if it is not found relevant to the topic. Since your essays will be handwritten, you will need to keep your handwriting legible and of reasonable size. This will not only help the readers understand your essay well but also help you in finishing the essay in limited space.

A good vocabulary and extensive reading will definitely help you score well in SAT essay writing section. It will help you developing clear ideas, using appropriate examples, using language proficiently, and making use of apt vocabulary for sentence construction. Any SAT essay can never be perfect and free of errors. However, usage of proper language mechanics, correct grammar, and steady flow of ideas can get you perfect score of 6 in your SAT essay writing sections.
