Historically, construction engineers learned through trial and error.  The training program for construction engineers completely was hands on.  All of this has started to change in the past fifteen years.  In this day and age, a growing number of people interested in the career in construction engineering are turning to obtaining certifications and degrees in advance of undertaking actual work in the field. 

Generally speaking, when it comes to construction engineers and construction engineering, a person typically will get a certification or an associates degree in this day and age.  There are rare instances when a person obtains a more advanced degree … but that remains rare in this day and age.

There is a wide variation in what a person can end up getting paid in regard to construction engineering.  There are many factors that play into the compensation a person receives for a position as a construction engineer, including geography, experience, and -- on some level and in some instances -- formal education.
