A person interested in a career in telecommunication will need to have a strong academic background to obtain an appropriate entry level position and to be able to advance to higher levels within the telecommunication industry.  For the most part, a person who is serious about a career in telecommunication in this day and age obtains a bachelors degree in advance of beginning his or her occupational course.

While a bachelors degree is not vital to embarking on a career in the telecommunication field, it is proving to be the standard more and more often.  There are some associates degree programs and even some certification programs in the area of telecommunication that generally are useful.

Generally speaking, the entry level salary associated with telecommunication positions when considering information technology professions as a whole is high.  Further, there are great opportunities to advance throughout the telecommunication system.
