Public Safety and SecurityA person interested in a career that combines broad ranging job duties with public service may want to consider obtaining a degree in public safety and security. Historically, an associate degree most commonly was associated with public safety and security. However, there are now bachelor degree programs available to people interested in a degree in public safety and security. Nearly universally, public safety and security professions are part of the public of governmental sector -- at least historically. However, there has been some movement since 9/11 for more people with public safety and security degrees being able to find positions in the private sectors. There are now a growing number of consulting firms that deal with public safety and security issues. A position in public safety is one of the higher paid in the overall legal and public welfare sectors. There are abundant opportunities for advancement and salaries tend to raise rapidly in a very short amount of time.
