Medical Billing Career

With literally thousands of patients seeing physicians and other medical services providers in the United States each day some with multiple symptoms and medical procedures to be accomplished, and the same number or more of insurance companies and governmental agencies to be billed for payment of these services, a medical billing career is one that is not likely to suffer from obsolescence.  In fact the medical billing career is one of the fastest growing in the health care field.

The busy professional in the detailed and rewarding career is responsible for ensuring that physicians and other medical personnel get paid for their services and that insurance companies are billed fairly and accurately.

A person in the medical billing career is working in an office situation and must have good eyesight, pay close attention to detail and have knowledge of medical terminology.  He or she will work closely with medical personnel, patients and insurance personnel.

Training for work in a medical billing career is relatively short and is offered at community colleges and vocational schools all over the United States; some hospitals and medical practices will provide on-the-job training, or the training can be done online. Certification and continuing education units are critical in order to stay current.

Salary expectations are good in the medical billing career.  $18,000-$30,000 annually is the range at present with slower growth over the next few years.
It is expected that outsourcing duties and increasing computerization will mean fewer billings delivered manually and more by computer technology.
