Online Pharmacy Technician CoursePharmacy technicians assist pharmacists by performing such duties as measuring medications, counting pills, filling prescriptions and labeling products. Pharmacy technicians also verify prescriptions, maintain patient records, and track insurance information.
The online pharmacy technician course prepares the student to work in an entry level position in either a hospital or a retail setting, where he or she is a respected member of the pharmaceutical team. The online pharmacy technician course also prepares the student to sit for the national exam.
At present, the national exam for technician certification, but many students take the exam to advance their employability in their chosen field.
Even though the course is an online experience, many of the programs pair the student with a qualified instructor for one-on-one experience and include at least a 40 hour externship. The advantage of the online course is the ability to work at your own pace while continuing with your daily work.
Many of the online pharmacy technician courses are offered in conjunction with a physical college or university and the accreditation carries over to the online courses as well. Expect to follow a course regimen heavy in science and mathematics, and people skills are also a plus for the aspiring technician.
